Cladding - Frequently Asked Questions

Plastic guttering
Do you completley remove the existing cladding boards or do you cap over them?

Answer:
The existing cladding boards are completley removed. We never cap over existing cladding boards. Capping over existing cladding will effectively seal in any moisture and lead to rot. Worst of all you wont be able to see if the rot is spreading. Any tradesman who reccomends capping over existing cladding boards should be avoided.

I have a semi detached property with cladding boards accross the front of both properties. Can you replace only mine?

Answer:
Yes. We can cut the existing timber boards on the boundary between the two houses and replace only your cladding boards. We will also install a joining trim which will finish the join neatly, rather than just butting the new boards next the old.

What length are the Upvc cladding boards manufactured to?

Answer:
Five metres. Any length over this will require a joining trim.

How are the cladding boards fixed? And to what are they fixed to?

Answer:
The cladding boards are typically fixed to timbers that in turn are fixed directly to the wall. We use stainless steel nails on all cladding installations simply because unlike other nails they will never rust. The size of the nail depends on the timber we fix to - typically a 30-40mm nail length. The nails are also hidden by the overlap of the next cladding board.

Do you offer a guarantee on the cladding installation?

Answer:
We offer a ten year guarantee on all our cladding installations. This covers both materials and workmanship. We also register the intsallation with the product manufacturer - Floplast, who in addition guarantee the quality of their materials.
